The Back Story

Who would ever think that a relationship that started with a fix up AND a toga party would wind up with a romantic proposal on a sailboat three years later? When Ellen Greene agreed to get fixed up with Nick Miles for an Auburn fraternity toga party, she certainly wasn’t thinking she was about to meet her future husband. But you never know how these things are going to turn out. There was instant chemistry and the couple became a couple immediately after that first date. Three years later as they vacationed at Orange Beach, Nick had a big surprise in store for Ellen: he was hiding an engagement ring and planned to pop the question that weekend. After a little snafu with their sailboat, Ellen certainly wasn’t expecting a proposal. Once they got things straightened out, Ellen came out of the boat’s cabin to find Nick on one knee, holding a ring they’d looked at months earlier--- and it went flying as Ellen flew into Nick’s arms with a very enthusiastic “yes!” to Nick’s proposal at sea.

The Planning

Once they got home, Ellen and her mom immediately started planning. Using hot pink as her main color, she added lime green to complete her color palette. Working with designer Vince Gray at Flower Stems, Ellen opted for a variety of different flower arrangements, uplighting, floral gobos (lighting template) and other custom lighting to transform the reception space.

The Details

Ellen really loved her Chantilly lace Amsale gown and used the distinctive crisscross detailing throughout the wedding. Her wedding cake and the bridesmaid gowns included the same detailing. Nick’s cake featured another significant detail. A very large AU on the top of the cake and lots of chocolate dipped strawberries in orange and blue tuxedos paid homage to Auburn. While the cakes were impressive, their monogrammed ice sculpture was the star of the show. Orange and blue vodka shots made their way down the sculpture and into glasses waiting below--- certainly a big hit with wedding guests! Sushi, assorted carving stations, and a cheese station especially for cheese lover Nick were just part of the delicious menu the couple planned for their guests.

With so much emphasis on details, the couple didn’t skimp on the one thing that was most important to them--- the entertainment. Z and the Party Factory kept the couple and their family and friends on the dance floor well into the night. After they couldn’t dance any more, the couple escaped in a vintage Rolls Royce limousine for their wedding night at The Tutwiler Hotel. After a honeymoon at the luxurious Secrets Resort Riviera Maya, the couple is at home in Birmingham and enjoying all of the wonderful gifts they received from Bromberg’s! Thanks Ellen and Nick. Best wishes and much happiness.
